Fuel from Wyoming, Compressed Natural Gas

Last week summer intern Annika Sohlstrom and I had the pleasure of attending a public Compressed Natural Gas Ride and Drive event in Riverton, Wyoming.  A meeting with the Wyoming Natural Gas and Infrastructure Coalition preceded the event.  Often this meeting is a teleconference so it was refreshing and invigorating to actually see everyone and feel the enthusiasm for compressed natural gas in the region.  The event itself took place at The Pit Stop Travel Center, 819 S. Federal Boulevard.  The Pit Stop began offering compressed natural gas in October 2011.

The Natural Gas Vehicle Exhibition took place on Tuesday July 31st. The event was organized and sponsored by Encana, who created an inviting and festive summer atmosphere.  The 20 vehicles on display drew interest from curious community members as well as those who were aware of the event ahead of time. Attendees mingled under the tent chatting with representatives from Freightliner, Ford, GM, local dealership Fremont Motors, as well as us; all while enjoying pulled pork sandwiches, chips, cookies and ice cold tea.   We had several meaningful conversations with folks excited and interested in converting personal vehicles and fleets to natural gas.

Senator Eli BeBout

On Wednesday, August 1st the ride and drive took place.  The day began with introductions from Encana, words from The Pitt Stop Travel Center owner and senator Eli BeBout, before attendees headed out to either test drive or ride along in a CNG vehicle.  Between all of the riding and driving we had numerous visitors to our booth.  Encana put together a wonderful event and we are excited to see more CNG vehicles on the road in response to it!

In addition to the aforementioned Riverton station, there are three other public CNG stations in the state of Wyoming located in Cheyenne, Rock Springs and Evanston.  We are fortunate to have these fueling stations, though there are many more desired for other locations throughout the state.  Progress is being made for the introduction of  CNG fueling stations in both Afton and Jackson while a station in Pinedale is slated to open this fall.  To stay up to date on CNG station openings, events and other current CNG news please visit the Wyoming Natural Gas Vehicle & Infrastructure Coalitions page hosted on our very own YTCEC website.
